Materials
Three fabrics. Chosen slowly, explained plainly.
The Laminate
A three-layer construction with an ePTFE-free hydrophilic membrane: 28,000 mm of waterproofness, RET < 6 breathability, 145 grams per square meter. We spent two years choosing it and rejected eleven candidates — most failed the quiet test. A shell you can hear is a shell you notice, and our clothing is designed to disappear. 100% recycled face fabric, PFAS-free water repellency. Found in the Ridgeline Shell and Cirque Shell Pant.
The Merino
18.5-micron ethically farmed merino, knit dense enough to hold its shape through a season of washing. It moves moisture before you feel damp and doesn't smell on day three — which matters when day three ends in a restaurant. Flatlock seams sit offset from pack straps. Found in the Strata Base and Drift Beanie.
The Canvas
Brushed organic cotton canvas with a hand that gets better every year you own it. Corozo nut buttons instead of plastic — they weather like the fabric does. Found in the Stillwater Overshirt.
Repaired for life
Every KATAN piece is repaired free, for as long as you own it. Offcuts from the cutting table become the Passage Kit. We'd rather fix ten jackets than sell one you don't need.
